Man to stand trial charged with possession of petrol bombs

A ST Johnston man is to stand trial charged with having possession of six petrol bombs, a sledge hammer, an iron bar, a knife and a baseball bat at home.

Daniel Lynch (47), Tullyowen, St. Johnston, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

He was served the Book of Evidence in relation to the alleged offence, which occurred on December 13, 2024.

The accused is charged that he did have in his custody under his control six petrol bombs, a baseball bat, an iron bar, a knife, a sledgehammer and a wooden shaft.

The charge claims the items were to be used without lawful excuse or cause or allow another to use it – to damage property, to wit, various vehicles belonging to person unknown in a way which you knew was likely to endanger the life of persons unknown.

The charge is Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

Garda Pauline Doherty gave evidence of serving the Book of Evidence on Lynch at Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented to the accused being sent forward to the current sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court on the charge.

Judge Emile Daly administered the alibi warning.

Lynch was remanded on bail on the same terms and conditions as previously set down by the court.
