A man was airlifted to Letterkenny University Hospital after getting into difficulty in the water off Cruit Island yesterday evening.

The alarm was raised shortly after the man encountered trouble near the island located near Kincasslagh in west Donegal.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with the Bunbeg Coast Guard and the Rescue 118 helicopter tasked to the scene.

The man was located and recovered safely before being transferred to LUH for treatment, a spokesperson for the Malin Head Coast Guard confirmed to the Donegal News.
