Man previously told by a judge to “get a job” is fined

A MAN who speaks five languages and who was previously told by a judge to “get a job” has been fined €300 for being drunk in a public place.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court on Monday how gardaí were on patrol on Main Street, Stranorlar, on September 3, 2025 when they found Peter Adanowicz intoxicated and holding a bottle of whiskey.

Adanowicz, a Polish national, of 7 Árd McCool, Stranorlar, had to be arrested for his own safety, the court heard.

Solicitor for Adanowicz (43), Patsy Gallagher told the court that his client is battling an addiction with alcohol, but that he is also an intelligent man who speaks numerous languages.

“While he is losing the war, he is winning the odd battle regarding alcohol.

“He has a number of previous convictions for theft, but due to alcohol.”

Previously, Judge Brendan O’Reilly urged that Adanowicz needs to find himself a job.

“He’s a talented man and he needs a job to keep his brain working,” Judge O’Reilly had said.

The Judge addressed Adanowicz and told him: “You are wasting your life” and had asked him if he had applied for jobs.

Passing down sentencing on Monday, Judge Emile Daly said: “While this is a relatively minor matter, it takes up time for gardaí to look after someone who gets into that state.”

Judge Daly fined Adanowicz €300 and gave him six months to pay.
