A man pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing death when he was arraigned at yesterday’s sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Sean Connaughton, with an address in Dundalk, County Louth, was involved in a road traffic collision at Townparks, Lifford, on July 11, 2021, which claimed the life of a 34 year old pedestrian, Laura Connolly.
The victim had been removed by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
Seeking an adjournment in the case, defence counsel, Peter Nolan, B.L. said the matter had caused “great stress and anxiety” to all parties involved including his client.
They had sought a Probation and Welfare report and the accused was now attending a G.P. in respect to medication and other matters.
“He is a family man with two children and a partner,” said Mr Nolan.
Senior counsel, Colm Smyth sought an adjournment to the October sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Prosecuting counsel, Fiona Crawford, B.L. told the court there was no State objection to the accused being remanded on continuing bail.
Judge Roderick Maguire said he was happy to adjourn the matter to October but indicated that the report might not be available by then.
“I hope that the Probation and Welfare services will be able to accommodate the report,” he added.
