A MAN has pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving which caused the death of a Letterkenny pensioner.
Shaun Duffy, with an address at Trillick, Buncrana, was driving one of three vehicles involved in a collision at Sharon Glebe, Newtowncunningham, on July 5, 2022.
The incident claimed the life of Mervyn McClure from Lurgy, who was in his seventies.
The accused tendered an apology to the members of Mr McClure’s family who were present at Letterkenny Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Defence counsel, Dara Foynes, S.C. told the court that her client had suffered the loss of a child who was killed tragically a short time before the incident.
She requested the provision of a probation report.
Judge John Aylmer extended legal aid to cover a psychological report and the preparation of a probation report.
He subsequently adjourned the case to the Letterkenny Circuit Court sitting in July.
