Man killed in workplace explosion named locally

A MAN killed in a workplace explosion yesterday has been named locally as Stephen Montgomery.

Stephen Montgomery (43) from Dunfanaghy was killed in an explosion on the outskirts of the village of Bunbeg yesterday afternoon.

It is believed he was operating machinery while breaking rock at a site at Bloody Foreland in Gaoth Dobhair.

Gardaí evacuated the area after an ‘apparent explosion’ and the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal were called in.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an investigation into the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing.
