Man killed in Kerrykeel crash named locally

A man killed in a single-vehicle crash in Kerrykeel last night as been named locally as bakery owner James Mailley.

Mr Mailley died after a road accident on the Shore Road at Kerrykeel around 3:30pm yesterday. Its being reported that he suffered a medical emergency while driving.

Emergency services attended the scene, but Mr Mailley was pronounced dead soon after they arrived.

Originally from Dumbarton in Scotland, Mr Mailley had been living in Kerrykeel for a number of years.

Mr Mailley ran Carlan Bakery and was highly respected in the area.

The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will now be made for a post-mortem examination.

The Kerrykeel to Portsalon road opened again at 3pm after it was closed following the incident.

Gardaí continue to appeal for any information about the accident.

A spokesperson said earlier: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milford Garda Station on 074 915 3060, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
