A MAN with more than 60 previous convictions pleaded guilty to stealing a ticket machine from a Bus Éireann coach in Letterkenny to the value of €1,000 at this week’s local district court.
Derek Dunne (24), of 31 H Markievicz House, Dublin, appeared before Letterkenny District Court via videolink on Monday.
Dunne is charged that on June 22, 2023 at Letterkenny Bus Station that he did steal property to wit a ticket machine from a
Bus Éireann coach to the value of €1,000 the property of Bus Éireann Transport Company.
Dunne is further charged that on the same date at Bus Éireann, Gortlee, Letterkenny, he did without lawful excuse damage property, to wit, Citroen Berlingo van, intending to damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be damaged.
He entered guilty pleas to both offences.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court CCTV footage had been examined by gardai. On arrest, Dunne was fully compliant and contrite.
Barrister Mr Senan Crawford BL said his client is a young mam who has, in respect of this matter, “cooperated fully”.
For the theft of the machine, Judge Emile Daly handed Dunne down a custodial sentence of three months imprisonment.
He was also handed down a two-month custodial sentence for the damage to the Citroen Berlingo van, to run concurrently.
