THERE is shock and sadness on Arranmore after a man died following a tragic accident on the island. Gardai were called at approximately 10am this morning after receiving reports of a man being discovered unconscious on a beach on the island.

The man, aged in his 50s, was airlifted to Sligo General Hospital by the R118 helicopter in a critical condition. He has since passed away. It is believed the man may have suffered a fall.

A spokesperson for the Gardai told the Donegal News that a post mortem will be conducted at a later date. However they said “foul play is not suspected at this time. This is currently being treated as a tragic accident.”
