Man arrested over Garda car fire

A man has been arrested after a Garda patrol car was discovered on fire near Castlefin Garda Station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man in his thirties was arrested this afternoon and is currently detained at Letterkenny Garda Station.

“An Garda Síochána are investigating an incident of criminal damage that occurred near Castlefin Garda station on the morning of Saturday 21st January 2023,” said a spokesperson for the Garda press office.

“Shortly before 4:15am, a marked Garda patrol vehicle that was parked outside the Garda station was discovered on fire.

“The fire was extinguished by local fire services. No injuries were reported.

“A man in his 30s was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday 21st January 2023 in connection with this incident.

“He is currently being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Investigations are ongoing.”
