Man arrested after car drove through garda checkpoint

A man has been arrested after driving at speed through a garda checkpoint in Donegal.

Officers from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit & Buncrana Garda Station were operating an Operation Thor checkpoint on a rural border road in the early hours of Sunday morning when they signalled for a vehicle to stop.

It failed to stop but instead was driven through the checkpoint at speed.

A garda spokesperson said: “The stinger device was deployed by Gardaí and the driver then made the wise decision to bring their vehicle to an abrupt halt before their tyres were stung.

“The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cocaine.

“The passenger was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected cocaine.

“Court proceedings will follow for both driver and passenger,” added the spokesperson.
