Man airlifted from sea

A man has been airlifted to hospital after being washed overeboard from a fishing vessel off the Donegal coast.

The condition of the man is not yet clear.  Two lifeboats, the Lough Swilly and Arranmore lifeboats, have been launched to take part in the search.

It is understood the Rescue 118 helicopter has also been scrambled to the area.

The man is believed to have been washed overboard in an area between Tory Island and Malin Head.

It is not known if the person was on a commercial or private vessel at this stage.

Both the Lough Swilly Shannon lifeboat at the Arranmore Lifeboat were launched just after 3pm.

A spokesman said “As you can appreciate this is a huge area of water and the details of the situation are still emerging.
“Two lifeboats, the Lough Swilly lifeboat and the Arranmore lifeboat, have been launched but we have no further details at the moment.”
