A MAN was before Letterkenny District Court this week charged with alleged child sexual exploitation.
The man, aged in 30s, who is currently in custody, appeared in the dock of Letterkenny District Court on Monday.
A reporting restriction is in place preventing the man from being named.
Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of charging the man at Letterkenny Courthouse on Monday morning at 11.30am. She told the court she cautioned the man in the usual way and he made no reply.
The man is charged that on dates between July 10, 2025 and July 15, 2025, that he did by means of information and communication technology, namely Snap Chat and WhatsApp, communicate with another person for the purpose of the sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 17.
He is further charged that on July 15, 2025, at Century Cinemas, Letterkenny, did intentionally travel with the intention of meeting a child under the age of 17 years, having communicated, specifically using an ICT device with the child at least on one previous occasion for the purpose of doing anything that would constitute sexual exploitation of that child.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court the matter is for prosecution on indictment and is to go forward on a signed plea.
The accused is being represented by solicitor Rory O’Brien, who was granted legal aid.
Mr O’Brien said: “On a signed plea, I will ask for full disclosure so I can see the full gambit of it.”
The man was remanded in custody until October 23 for service of the Book of Evidence.
Mr O’Brien raised concern about material being placed on Facebook by an organisation.
Sergeant Jim Collins said the deleted material had been shared by other users.
