A man aged in his 40s collapsed while climbing Errigal Mountain this afternoon.
He was then airlifted to Letterkenny University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, RTE has reported.
Emergency services received the call shortly after midday when the man became seriously ill whilst climbing the mountain.
The National Ambulance Service, the Coastgaurd Rescue 118 helicopter and Donegal Mountain Rescue Team all responded to the incident.
In a post on social media the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team detailed the call out.
“At 12:48 on Saturday, April 26th, DMRT was tasked by the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to assist a person in cardiac arrest on Errigal Mountain.
“Our team immediately initiated full callout protocols with rendezvous at Errigal Car Park.
“On arrival, NAS already had an advanced team on the mountain with an additional medical team just arriving on scene. An Advanced Paramedic was present, and a DMRT hasty party quickly joined NAS at the casualty’s location.
“CPR was initiated by NAS staff who were hiking on the mountain. Coast Guard Rescue 118 helicopter was also tasked and arrived shortly after, alongside a critical care doctor.
“All personnel worked together to stabilise the casualty, who was then airlifted to Letterkenny Hospital by Rescue 118.”
