THE 39-year-old man  who was killed in a road accident near Gortahork last night had only married a few months ago.

James Gallagher, a native of Magheraroarty, lived at Currinsport, Glasherchoo. He had married a local woman, Yvonne (nee Doohan) a few months ago and they had a daughter, Lilly Rose.

Local priest, Fr Brian O’Fearraigh, said the family were ‘devastated’ and the area was ‘shocked’. He said James Gallagher was a very popular man in the locality.

Gardai in Milford are investigating the single vehicle fatal accident that occurred at Currinsport off the R257 at approximately 9pm. There was heavy frost at the time and roads were dangerous.

The man was killed when the car he was driving hit a pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The road is closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to contact  Milford Garda Station on 074 9153060, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
