Malone nets memorable goal at Hill 16 end

The smile said it all as Shea Malone came out of the Donegal dressing room at Croke Park today.

Malone had a league debut to remember as he rattled in the crucial goal at the Hill 16 end in Donegal’s 1-20 to 0-20 win over Dublin.

A goal any day is good.

But any day that it is in Croke Park is that extra bit better.

Any time you’re in front of goal, you’re trying to make the most of it.

I probably didn’t get on too much ball or get too many chances but when you do get them you have to take them.”

Malone was quick to praise Caolan McGonagle. The Buncrana man was making his 100th appearance for Donegal and laid the ball across.

He did all the hard work.

He gained the yards and got the pass off in perfect time. He got a bit of a clattering after it.

I had the easy part. I just had to take the ball drop it straight away and lash the foot at it.”
