Mali, a Bernese Mountain Dog, has been safely rescued after spending two harrowing weeks stranded on a cliff in Donegal.
The beloved pet ran off from her German owners on August 16th while they were visiting Arranmore Island, spooked by high winds.
Despite extensive search efforts involving locals, tourists, and even drones, hope for Mali’s safe return was waning.
Mali’s owners, who had been enjoying a month-long stay in Ireland, were devastated.
They issued an SOS to the local community, which responded with a dedicated search, combing the island and surrounding areas.
Despite their best efforts, Mali remained elusive.
It wasn’t until a fishing boat, captained by John Paul Baska of North West Charters, happened to pass by the cliffs near Arranmore that Mali’s location was finally discovered.
To their astonishment, they found the dog perched precariously on a cliff, 200 feet above the crashing waves below.
In a video posted by North West Charters, captioned: “That’s Him Found and Saved,” Mali’s rescue is met with cheers of joy.
The poor dog had become ensnared by her lead on a rock, leaving her unable to move from a wide ledge where she likely spent the entirety of her ordeal.
After contacting the Malin Head Coastguard Station, John Paul, along with his crewmate Padraig Lawlor, arranged to reunite Mali with her worried family.
The dog’s owners, Sarah Recinos Ralda, her husband David, and their four children, who were staying near Kincasslagh, were overjoyed to have their furry family member back safe and sound.
The family, who had been bracing themselves for the worst, are now planning to return to Germany with their beloved Mali.
