Speaking following his election as ICSA Donegal chair Mr Thompson said it has never been more important for the farming families of Donegal to have meaningful and effective representation.

“The experience I bring as a long-standing member of ICSA and as a former president of the association will be very necessary as we navigate these challenging times.

“Farmers in Donegal are under immense pressure as inflation continues to cause havoc with feed and fuel prices, but this is not being factored in by the meat factories.

“The fact that beef and lamb is now costing significantly more to produce cannot be ignored, and it is something that I and my fellow members of the Donegal executive intend to put right,” he said.

Mr Thompson thanked William McGirr for his tenure as ICSA Donegal chair and said he was looking forward to tackling the important farming issues both locally at a wider level as part of ICSA’s National Executive.

Also elected on the night to represent the Donegal ICSA executive were John Barron from Ballymagroarty, Edward Browne from Manorcunningham and Jessica Duncan from Carrigans.
