Major success:  St Columba’s Community Centre annual bazaar

THE  annual bazaar, in aid of St. Columba’s Community Centre took place last Sunday in Burtonport and once again, it was a huge success.

It was a most enjoyable evening, with a great variety of items on sale at the stalls and of course the very popular auction, with great value for all who purchased.

The 50/50 bingo games plus the three prize draw raffles also went very well.

Prior to the start of the auction, David Alcorn, who was MC for the afternoon, asked for a minute’s silence in memory of Hughie Sweeney, Sheskinarone, whose funeral took place earlier in the day.

The Centre committee would like to sincerely thank those who left such beautiful and valuable items for the bazaar and to all those who gave vouchers etc

Many thanks to all who attended, the staff of the centre, Margaret, Dympna, Ann, Tony and Martin, the committee of the centre for their continuous help and to those who provided delicious baking on the day.

Thanks to Mary and Eirú Ward for their help in selling all the different prize draw lines. The prize hamper, which was very kindly donated by Maple Shop, Burtonport was won by Maire Boyle (Joe), Lackenagh, 2nd prize of a turkey was won by Ayla Rose Boyle (Chloe), Acres and 3rd prize of a bottle of whiskey was won by Sandy Allan, Lackenagh.

Winners of other draws were Saoirse McGarvey (guess the number of sweets in the jar), Iohla Boyle (guess the name of the doll) and Jenny Boyle (guess the name of the small truck).

The total proceeds from the day amounted to €5,418, which shows again, what a tremendous community there is in Burtonport.

It is always the main fundraiser of the year for the much used centre and this bazaar is a tremendous help to facilitate the day to day running costs of the centre.
