THE building project for the Little Angels School in Letterkenny moved a step closer to reality this week.
Deputy Joe McHugh said that the building project has gone out to tender, with a return date of tomorrow, Friday, October 16.
The next stage of the process then involves the Design Team preparing a tender report identifying the preferred tender bidder, which will then be assessed by the Department.
Following this process, and assuming no issues arise, it is likely that construction could commence in the first quarter of 2021.
“This is great news for the Little Angels school and community. I had the pleasure of calling to Little Angels on a few occasions during my tenure as Minister for Education and got to meet many of the students and to see first-hand the great work and education being carried out by Ailbhe Dunne, School Principal and her dedicated team.
“I am pleased that this school building project is progressing well now and, when complete, it will make a huge difference to Little Angels in continuing with the provision of their important and vital services,” said McHugh.
This positive news comes at a time when diggers are on site at Scoil Cholmcille Letterkenny, St Mary’s NS Stranorlar and Glenswilly NS.
“There are up to 13 new schools and major capital extensions in the current Capital Plan and I have got assurances from Paschal Donohoe, Minister for Finance, that these schools will be protected in the upcoming capital review. I will also be pushing strongly for new schools to be included,” Deputy McHugh said.
