Work is expected to get underway today (Monday) and aims to give the Main Street a revamp and make it a safer area for motorists and pedestrians.

The works will include the widening of the footpaths along the Main Street, six raised ramped crossings to slow down traffic and a new signal crossing at Scoil Colmcille.

Local councillor Paul Canning said he is delighted to finally see the funding approved and is looking forward to the work beginning.

“I am delighted to announce that we have received an allocation of just under one million euro for the development of our main street,” he said.

“This is made up of a number of different types of allocations for different types of work.

“This work will commence this week.

“Thank you all for your patience in regards this project,” said Cllr Canning.

The work has been in the pipeline for a number of years after concerns were raised about the speed of vehicles travelling through the busy Main Street.
