Major fire at Watson Hire in Letterkenny

Letterkenny fire brigade was out in force this evening after a major fire broke out in Watson Hire in the Kiltoy area. There were no injuries reported.
A huge plume of black smoke could be seen from long distances as crowds gathered near the busy Kiltoy junction.
It is understood that the fire broke out as staff were closing the shutters at around 6pm to go home. A bang was heard and fire quickly took hold in a premises filled with hardware, hire equipment, tools, home heating and gardening material.
Fire fighters were also attempting to prevent the spread of flames to nearby buildings which include storage units and HSE premises.
Watson Hire is a well known business in the Letterkenny area and is owned by John Watson, a former president of Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
