Major clean-up underway after Storm Isha batters Donegal

CLEAN-UP operations are underway throughout Donegal today as a result of Storm Isha.

A status yellow warning for wind remains in place until 7pm this evening after  extremely strong and destructive gusts tore through Donegal leaving many housebound as a result.

Gale force winds accompanied by heavy rain brought challenging conditions, fallen trees and widespread power outages. There a number of schools and businesses closed today as a result of the storm.

Sandbags were deployed in a number of high-risk areas by Donegal County Council while they remained on stand-by as weather conditions worsened.

Met Eireann has warned today there will continue to be very strong and gusty westerly winds.

Potential impacts include large coastal waves with wave overtopping, difficult travelling conditions, debris and  loose objects displaced.

The following updates are from Donegal County Council on roads around the county that are blocked or closed due to fallen trees:

Tree down partially blocking the road at Rossylongan

Tree down blocking the Drummeney road (L-6675-1).

Sheeps Lane Raphoe (Upper End) near Castle is closed due to fallen ESB wires. Avoid the area until the danger has been removed.

Tree down at the Heney’s (L1955-2) blocking the road to Harvey’s point

Road blocked due to fallen tree at Carricknagore road (L5555)

N15 partially blocked between Stranorlar and Killygordon, passable with care. Road crews on site.

N15 – Murvagh junction to Laghey, fallen branches in the hard shoulder.

The N56 at Stragar North near Molloy’s fish factory is blocked dur to a fallen tree.

Fallen tree on the N15 at Ballymagroarty Scotch partially blocking the hard shoulder.

A tree has fallen on the hard shoulder at Behy

R252 partially blocked due to several trees down between Brockagh and Glenfin GAA. Passable with care. Road crews on site.

Tree blocking the L2175 in Ballintra near Robertson National School

R264 partially blocked between Raphoe and Ballindrait at Tamnawood, due to fallen tree, passable with care

R264 partially blocked between Ballindrait and Murlog due to fallen tree. Passable with care.

Road blocked at R236 Castletown Bends due to several trees down

ESB wires are down on Sheeps Lane Raphoe. The road is closed and should be avoided until made safe.

Lettercran Road (L8065) is blocked dur to a fallen tree.

The Ballydevitt road (L1845-4) near the Mill Park Hotel in Donegal Town is blocked due to a fallen tree.

Ramelton to Kilmacrennan Road Blocked at Waterfall Road Junction

Letterkenny To Ramelton Road Blocked at Magherenn some trees down on diversion routes avoid area if possible

The Rathmullan to Ray road is blocked and unpassible at Holymount will not be cleared until later in the day.

R238 at Ard Colgan, Carndonagh is blocked. ESB wires down. Diversion via Moss road and Corvish Road.

Convoy to Glenmaquin Rd blocked due to fallen tree
