WITH one in four suffering from mental health difficulties or depression a new charity founded by Majella O’Donnell is aiming to help people cope with the stresses and strains of every day life.
The wife of singing star Daniel O’Donnell is the founder and chief fundraiser for the charity, Donegal Mind Wellness, a HSE backed initiative launched in Letterkenny on Monday.
The promoters believe the initiative will go a long way to dispel the myths and stigma around mental health and well being.

In early January courses will be rolled out in eight different locations across Donegal offering free courses to help people control stress.
Majella said she hoped the charity will help people to cope with the stresses and strains of everyday life, which can lead to anxiety, panic attacks and depression.
“I suffer from and still manage depression, but lucky I’m lucky that I haven’t had any serious bouts for a while. But, I did have a very hard time and I had to learn the skills on how to deal with depression and importantly recognise when it is coming. I want to impart that information to others and give them the tools to cope with it,”
“I did an awful myself when I went through difficult times and I want to help everybody deal with the stress and strains we all have to deal with that can lead to depression and anxiety attacks,” she said.
Majella said she found dealing with depression more difficult than her recent battle with cancer recently.
“I found depression harder because it is not a physical thing, It is in the mind and it is hard to describe and also to get people to understand that don’t have it,” she added.
