
The Mairtin Oâ'Connor Band is performing in Dunlewey on Friday.
THE Máirtín O’Connor Band is coming to Dunlewey this weekend to perform at the state-of-the-art Dunlewey Theatre.
The band is a musical partnership of accordionist Máirtín O’Connor, fiddler and banjo player Cathal Hayden and guitarist and singer Séamie O’Dowd.
The dynamic traditional Irish music ensemble present a dozen tracks on their latest album Going Places, a follow-up to the trio’s 2009 beguiling release, Crossroads.
The band’s bright sound has been carefully sculpted over a ten-year period of countless touring miles. Anchored by Galway man O’Connor’s dazzling button accordion, the astounding skill and virtuosity of all three musicians, manifests itself on this highly anticipated release.
O’Connor is one of Ireland’s most respected traditional musicians, taking his instrument to new heights in a career that has seen him add his unique blend of musicianship to seminal groups like Skylark, De Dannan, Midnight Well and The Boys of the Lough.
Recording his first solo album at the age of seventeen, Tyrone man, Hayden went on to become a founder member of trad super-group Arcady, alongside such luminaries as Sharon Shannon, Johnny “Ringo” McDonagh, Sean Keane and Frances Black.
Rooted deeply in the traditional music of his native Sligo, O’Dowd has added his talents to many genres of acoustic and electric music.
