Ollie Horgan’s team were under pressure in the first 15 minutes, but against the run of play, Josh Mailey gave them the lead with a fantastic strike.

Harps led 1-0 at the break, and they could have extended their lead after the restart, but McNamee was denied by Longford goalkeeper Paul Skinner.

However, there was nothing the netminder could do to stop McNamee from finding the bottom corner in the 74th minute.

The visitors did get a scare late on when Kealan Dillon hit the crossbar with a rasping shot, but Harps survived and held on to collect their first away victory of the season.

The result leaves Horgan’s men 12 points ahead of bottom-of-the-table Longford, who will be up against it to avoid automatic relegation.
