John MacIntyre hopes that his side can maintain their momentum and produce a performance in this Friday’s Under-21 Hurling Final against Sean MacCumhaills.
The Letterkenny men have been impressive to date in their two Under-21 outings, defeating Setanta in the quarter-finals and Letterkenny Gaels in the last four, putting up some big scorelines in the process.
McIntyre, who manages the side alongside Seán Halvey, stated that the goal was to reach the final and he now hopes that they can keep their good form going.
“We were aiming to be in the final of this competition when we started out. We got off to a good start, last year we struggled to get into the final.”
“But we’ve managed to get good performances out of the boys this year so hopefully we’ve got a bit of momentum coming, we can build on what we’ve done so far and hopefully we can produce a performance now in the final.”
The St Eunan’s Senior sides have had a solid season in 2025. Their Senior side lost out in the decider to Setanta however, their Intermediate group secured glory by overcoming Dungloe in the showpiece.
A good few of these players are involved in the Under-21 side and MacIntyre feels that those who lost out with the senior team will be looking to put things right this Friday.
“We’ve the guts of 10 or 12 players from the senior panels. You’ve got John Kealy, Peter Kelly and David Horgan, three boys that would be starting for the seniors.”
“From the Intermediates, you’ve got Conor Neely, Shane Ellison and Brendan Gaffney who won Intermediate Championship Player of the Year.”
“We’ve a good cohort from the two teams. We won the Intermediate but I think it was disappointing not to end up with silverware in the senior so we’ll be looking to put that right this weekend.”
The O’Donnell Park residents will now face Sean MacCumhaills in this Friday’s showpiece in Convoy.
The Twin Towns men have been a constant force at underage level in recent years, securing the last three minor titles.
Having suffered defeat to Burt in the previous two Under-21 Hurling Finals, MacIntyre hopes that his outfit can get over the line at the third time of asking this Friday night.
“MacCumhaills are a coming team. I think last year they won everything at underage level and they’d be close to doing that again this year.”
“They won’t be coming to make up the numbers. They’ve a very strong team, you’ve got Dan Donnelly as well as Jacob Malone and Conor Murphy who would’ve been with the Donegal Under-20’s.”
“They’ve a very solid team overall and they’ll be a very good senior team in the next couple of years. It’ll be interesting to see how the two teams compete against each other.”
“We’ve lost to Burt the last two years so hopefully this time we can get over the line. As long as we get a performance in the final first, we can go from there then.”
