STRANORLAR’S Brendan McLaughlin, the longest surviving lung transplant patient in Ireland, has passed away.
Mr McLaughlin, who had a double lung transplant in 1992 followed by a kidney transplant nine years later, died at the Mater Hospital in Dublin yesterday.
He was a well known health campaigner and served as chair of the Donegal Branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Association. Mr McLaughlin was born with cystic fibrosis and spent nine weeks on life-support while waiting for a donor before he travelled to the UK to undergo the transplant on August 10 1992 aged 35.
Predeceased by his mother Frances and sister Martina he is survived by his father Seamus and brothers Gerard, Seamus, Frances, and Kevin and partner Martina.
Remains reposing at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Gerard and Teresa McLaughlin, 16, Ash Meadows, Drumboe, Stranorlar today from 7 p.m. until Rosary at 10 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until Rosary at 10 p.m.
Funeral leaving from there on Thursday, at 10.20 am for Requiem Mass in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar at 11 a.m. Interment afterwards in Drumboe Cemetery.
