IT was a lucky escape for those travelling on Bus Éireann’s Donegal to Dublin Express service on Sunday night when a falling tree came through the window of the bus.
There were nine passengers and the driver travelling on the 7pm Route X30 service when the windscreen of the coach was badly damaged by a tree between Belleek and Enniskillen.
“Thankfully our driver and all passengers were not injured,” a spokesperson for Bus Éireann told the Donegal News.
“The Bus Éireann management were closely monitoring the weather advisories and services were assessed in line with both the local relevant weather advise and prevailing weather conditions.
“Safety is of paramount importance to everyone at Bus Éireann and all passengers and our driver were transported safely back to Donegal on the 17:00 X30 service that was in operation from Dublin to Donegal.
“As a result of this incident, the 19:00 X30 Donegal to Dublin service was curtailed. The 00:30 Dublin to Donegal Route 30 service was cancelled due to fallen trees along the route.
“Bus Éireann would like to apologise to all customers affected by the curtailment and cancellation of the Route X30/30 services.
“We appreciate how important these services are to the local community, but due to the safety of our drivers, customers and other road users, the company had to make this decision. All customers with pre-booked seats were notified about the cancellation and a notice was also placed on our website. “
The bus had left Donegal Town before the status red warning came into effect in Donegal at 9pm on Sunday evening.
