#LoveDonegal day described as a huge success

#LoveDonegal Day 2024, which took place on 25th September, has been heralded as a major success by reaching 5 million more people than last year.

Now in its sixth year, the initiative took place alongside other promotional events like Disrupt by the Sea and the Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora Awards.

The 2023 edition reached 85 million worldwide. However, members of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District heard that this year’s figure stands at 90.3 million in just one day.
Between the 25th and 29th of September, the global reach rose to 144.5 million.

Social media users were encouraged to share posts about the Irish Diaspora, the natural landscape, and our various traditional languages.

Businesses were also encouraged to use the hashtag #LoveDonegal in their marketing by promoting “LoveDonegal” dishes made by local producers.

The initiative’s communications plan included downloadable sample plans, and digital assets to ensure everyone could get involved, no matter how tech-savvy you are.

The day has been part of a continued effort by Donegal County Council to boost tourism in the region. Speaking at the launch of the new advertising campaign, “It’s Yours, It’s Ours.” Chief Executive of Donegal County Council, John G McLaughlin, explained the drive to promote the county.

He said: “Donegal County Council is committed to investing in the promotion of the county as a world-class destination – showcasing that it is one of Ireland’s most magical regions with a variety of cultural, outdoor and gastronomic offerings for visitors, all year-round,”

Other events which took place on the day were council buildings being lit up green and gold on the day, the Lovedonegal logo projected onto the walls of Donegal Castle, and a special event held at Donegal Airport.
