THE five star Solis Lough Eske Castle has been named the nation’s favourite hotel in County Donegal, according to trivago.ie.
The hotel search engine has revealed which hotels in Ireland are the most popular among Irish visitors.
Based on travel interest from Irish users to County Donegal, the five-star castle claims the top position.
The full results show that the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny was the second most popular choice of hotels in Donegal, followed by Harvey’s Point at Lough Eske and the Radisson Blu in Letterkenny.
The fifth most popular hotel in Donegal according to the hotel search engine is the Sandhouse in Rossnowlagh with Gallagher’s Hotel in Letterkenny in sixth place.
The Mill Park and Central Hotels in Donegal Town, along with the Mount Errigal in Letterkenny and Redcastle Spa & Golf Resort also feature in the top ten.
As the most popular choice with travellers booking through Trivago.ie, Lough Eske Castle is located on a private 43-acre estate and has its own spa and wellness centre.
Boasting elegant and sophisticated interiors, the hotel is a luxury retreat, offering a range of pursuits including golf, surfing, fishing or horse riding. Dating back to the 1400s, the building has links to the O’Donnell clan, the founding fathers of County Donegal.
Rankings are based on trivago hotel searches made by Irish users, weighted proportionally against total Irish user searches to the hotel’s location. Searches were made 1 January – 29 October 2014 for a minimum stay of three days.
