IT’S THE final week of Donegal’s premier summer event, Earagail Arts Festival and there is still lots in-store.
Come and enjoy some of the most extraordinary death-defying aerialists, hilarious comedians and mind-boggling magicians Ireland has to offer at Ionad Cois Locha, Dunlewey, from Thursday, July 24 to Saturday, July 26 3.30pm (daily), with Tumble Circus’ new show Talamh and Stephen McGinley’s “Mo Cheol an Sorcas” as Gaeilge.
Talamh is the new show from Belfast’s Tumble Circus. For over 30 years Tumble Circus have been reinventing Irish circus. When you come into their big top you’re entering a world of hope, imagination and circus revolution.
Tumble Circus, the Irish Cirque du Soleil, if Cirque du Soleil was hit by a bus.
Juggling and music come together in this newly-created circus show by Stephen McGinley, which is suitable for families. With the help of the audience, he will play music with his amazing instruments. In this way, the audience will get to see new juggling patterns.
Artist, animator, and educator John D Ruddy, once again helped a group of young people of ethnic minorities (age 12-18) explore and connect with stories from their cultures.
Together with their community, they each created an animated short film, using the voices of these young people to tell their own stories and these will premiere in a free screening at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny on Thursday, July 24 at 3pm.
In Buncrana that night, Inishowen Traditional Music Project presents an exploration of the life and music of Honoria Galwey. This event at Buncrana Cinema is both a film and live music performance, and will help to illuminate the life and work of Honoria Galwey.
Earagail Arts Festival’s partners are hosting some fantastic events across the county, with the Irish Aerial Dance Fest hosting a number of showcases during the week at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny and the Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey hosting not only Frankie McCafferty’s new play, Lisdoon Nirvana (Friday, July 25) but also Lisa Lambe and Steve Cooney on Saturday, July 26.
On Saturday, July 26 you have the choice of several events across the county on the final day of the festival to enjoy beginning with the BRRR Record and Tapes Fair in Blakes (Main Street, Letterkenny) where the will also be food served by Rosie’s Coffee & Food.
Experience a curated arts trail showcasing professional and community-created works, set against the stunning island landscape of Inis Bo Finne (you just need to pay for the ferry), enjoy a free an Oíche Airneáil of song and spoken word in the Glenveagh Inn, Termon, or join us at the closing party with DJ Big Cheeks in Blakes.
Meanwhile in Ramelton that night, you can look forward to Edinburgh DJ, producer, sound designer, and label owner, Lord Of The Isles, teaming up with fellow Edinburgh native, poet, performer, and theatre maker, Ellen Renton, to bring you a mix of vividly evocative words with introspective ambient synthscapes, which is sure to be a highlight closing event!
