Lorry crash victim named locally

Declan Holian

IT has been confirmed that one of the two lorry drivers killed in an early morning crash in County Monaghan this morning is from Donegal.

He has been named locally as Declan Holian (30) of Barrack, Ramelton (Ballyare) from a well-known and highly respected family in the area.

He is survived by his parents and nine siblings. He had worked for local company Sean Hegarty and Sons for a numbers of years and was due to get married in March.
The accident happened at approximately 6am on the N2 between Carrickmacross and Castleblaney.

Both male drivers of the two lorries involved were fatally injured in the crash. They were the sole occupants of each of the vehicles. The other driver was aged 32.

The stretch of the N2 is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Investigators and local diversions are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until later today.
