The Ulster LGFA U14 C Shield final took place on Monday between Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny and Virginia College, Cavan. The Loreto Secondary School team were represented by players from a range of local GAA teams including St Eunan’s, Letterkenny Gaels, Glenswilly, Termon, St Michael’s and Convoy.
Loreto Secondary School made a strong start to the game with Ella Brennan breaking through Virginia College’s backline on several occasions using her blistering pace and completing the moves with strong finishes into the back of the net. Loreto Secondary School’s midfield of Niamh McGrenra and Faye Casburn put in tremendous work to support both defence and attack and were key to a number of vital scores for Loreto Secondary School.
With a half-time lead, it was important that the Loreto Secondary School team had a strong second half to clinch the trophy.
They were able to do that through smart kick-outs from goalkeeper, Saoirse Wall, which gave vital possession to Loreto Secondary School to keep their opposition at bay.
Mia Crampsie was a rock at the heart of the Letterkenny defence through many interceptions and blocks late in the game. Virginia College made things uneasy in the final minutes with a late goal but the fresh legs of the Loreto Secondary School substitutes gave them enough strength to finish out the game. There were joyous scenes at the end of the game as Loreto Secondary School clinched the Ulster trophy.
A special mention went to the Letterkenny captain, Niamh McGrenra, who was awarded the player of the match during the presentation.
