STUDENTS from Loreto Secondary School in Letterkenny are taking part in the regional finals of Gael Linn’s prestigious debating competition, Comórtas Díospóireachta An Phiarsaigh, this week.
Loreto students will compete in the junior Connacht final in Carrick-on-Shannon this evening when they will debate on whether the policies put in place by the Green Party are positively impacting the standard of living in Ireland in the present day.
The Letterkenny students will be in favour of the motion while St. Gerald’s College, Castlebar will be against the motion. Also competing in the junior division will be Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone (in favour of the motion) and Scoil Bhríde, Tuam (against the motion).
Following this debate, students in the senior division will debate on whether alcohol
should be banned entirely in Ireland or not.
Loreto Letterkenny will be against the motion in this section and Carrick-On-Shannon Community School will be in favour of the motion. St Gerald’s College, Castlebar (in favour of the motion) and Scoil Mhuire, Trim (against the motion) will also take part in the debate.
One junior team and one senior team will progress on to take part in the All Ireland Final that will take place on March 28 .
