THE Mayor of the Letterkenny and Milford Municipal District, Cllr Kevin Bradley has honoured long-serving foster carers at an event in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny.
He was joined at the special appreciation event by Jacqueline Smyth, National Lead for Foster Care, Tusla and Gerry Hone, Regional Chief Officer, West North West, Tusla who extended their thanks to foster carers in Donegal.
Cllr Bradley said it was an honour and privilege to be associated with such an important event.
“The generosity and kindness of our foster carers gives hope and opportunity to young people who need all the support they can get at such an important time in their lives,” he said.
Currently, there are 210 children in foster care in Donegal and 129 families who foster.
The foster carers, some of whom have cared for several children and young people for over 20 years, were presented with a gift as a mark of gratitude for their commitment to fostering.
Tusla’s fostering service relies on families and individuals in our community who are willing to share their homes and lives with children and young people whose parents are unable to care for them.
Delighted to have this opportunity to express his gratitude, Gerry Hone thanked the foster carers who have offered years of support to children and young people in Donegal in a time of need.
“Tusla values their dedication and commitment enormously, and their care has meant that children and young people in need of support in Donegal have been able to stay connected with their local communities.”
Tusla is holding two information sessions on Tuesday, October 17 at 6.30pm in the Station House Hotel, Letterkenny, and Thursday, October 26 at 11am in the Tusla Fostering Recruitment Office, St. Conal’s Hospital, Letterkenny.
