DONEGAL TD Pearse Doherty has welcomed the commitment given by the Minister for Enterprise that financial supports will be introduced for businesses using Liquefied Petroleum Gas and kerosene oil in the coming weeks.
This week, the Minister for Enterprise Simon Coveney confirmed that a scheme to provide support to these businesses will be introduced in the coming weeks.
Speaking today, Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Teachta Doherty said, “For months I and Sinn Féin have been calling for financial support to be rolled out for businesses that rely on LPG and oil to meet their energy needs.
“This includes many businesses here in Donegal, who have been locked out of financial support through the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme.
“That businesses relying on LPG and oil have been locked out of support while businesses using metered gas and electricity have been included, is deeply unfair.
“I have raised this matter with the Minister for Finance many times.
“While this has been far too slow, with Donegal businesses struggling with rising energy costs, it is welcome.
“I will continue to engage with the Government to ensure this scheme works for businesses in Donegal,” said Teachta Doherty.
