LOCAL teacher and author Louise Flanagan will sign copies of her latest book in Letterkenny tomorrow.
‘Dream Beasts’ is Louise’s third book which tells the story of Sean, who discovers a leprechaun called Erin crying in his garden on St. Patrick’s Day.
He embarks on an adventure to the magical land of Dormica to help her retrieve seven lost coins.
Time is running out, as Erin must present the coins at her 100th birthday celebration in order to be awarded her very own crock of gold.
Failure to do so will result in banishment from the Realm of the Leprechauns, the author explained.
Louise is a secondary school teacher in Loreto Letterkenny and she is the author of the Donegal News Parenting column.
“I have a degree in English from NUIG and I’ve always been interested in writing. I didn’t imagine I’d ever get around to publishing a book though. Lockdown provided me with the opportunity to pen some ideas and I spent my time writing Dragonterra for my daughter Lucy to read. It was essentially a lockdown project that spiralled out of control when I decided to publish it for other children to enjoy.
“In 2022, I published series two of the Dragonterra adventure, Return to Dragonterra. Thankfully, it was received with equal enthusiasm by young readers, both in Donegal and further afield. Then the idea came to write a magical story about a leprechaun,”
Dream Beasts is over 30,000 words and divided into 37 chapters. The font is large and there are plenty of beautiful illustrations throughout to keep young readers engaged.
The cover art and illustrations were created by Jonathan Ouisse, a French artist who lives in Hungary.
The book signing takes place in Bookmark this Saturday, June 8, in Letterkenny Shopping Centre (next to Penneys) from 2-4pm.
Dream Beasts will be available to buy there, as well as copies of Dragonterra and Return to Dragonterra. Louise will be handing out signed bookmarks and maybe some other surprises too!
Dragonterra and Dream Beasts are available to purchase on my website www.dragonterra.ie with free nationwide delivery.
They are also stocked in all of the main bookshops in County Donegal. Dream Beasts retails at €12.99.
