THE grandson of a local man, who recently passed away in Spain, experienced a moment of joy on the morning of his First Holy Communion when a yellow Mustang unexpectedly appeared at his home.
In the weeks leading up to the big day, Terry Ponsonby, a well-known businessman from Letterkenny, had been secretly planning the special surprise for his grandson Terry Jnr.
Best known for owning the popular local take-away ‘The Friars Rest’, Mr Ponsonby passed away suddenly while holidaying in Spain last Tuesday.
Despite not being there to see the surprise unfold, Mr Ponsonby left a lasting mark on the special day and the smile on Terry Jnr’s face was a quiet tribute to the love he left behind.
Taking to social media at the weekend to share the heart-warming post, a spokesperson from The Bear Run 74 described the surprise as the hardest they’ve organised to date.
“Terry wanted to surprise his grandson with the yellow Mustang for his big day,” a spokesperson said.
“Telling this young man that it was a surprise from his late grandad wasn’t easy.”
With funeral arrangements for the Letterkenny man still to be confirmed, it is believed his remains are due home later this week.
