Local projects benefit from funding

Donegal County Council has been allocated €100,000 for projects in Letterkenny and Falcarragh.

The Swilly Waterway Riverside Project in Letterkenny and Ballyconnell Estates and Gardens Project in Falcarragh will both receive €50,000 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). The aim of the ORIS vis to enhance outdoor amenities such as walkways, cycleways, rivers, lakes, and beaches.

Welcoming the funding announcement by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphries, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue, said: “These funding allocations is positive news for Letterkenny and Falcarragh.

“The allocation of €50,000 in funding will bring both projects to the shovel-ready stage. From then, the projects will be able to secure further funding through other measures of the ORIS.

“When completed, these two local projects will be a major boost to the local economies and will further enhance Donegal’s reputation as a tourist and adventure destination,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.

The two Donegal amenity projects are among 50 outdoor adventure initiatives across Ireland that have been allocated almost €2.3 million to support their development.
