THE Letterkenny & District Pipe Band is set to embark on a monumental journey to New York City to participate in the 2025 St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
From Friday, March 14 to Wednesday 19, 65 members and followers, which includes 18 children, will represent Letterkenny and County Donegal on an international stage.
Their itinerary features performances at the Throggs Neck Parade in the Bronx, on Sunday, March 16, followed by the iconic Fifth Avenue Parade on Monday, the world’s oldest and largest parade on March 17, St Patrick’s Day.
These events are renowned for their vibrant displays of Irish heritage, and the band’s participation underscores their dedication to their craft and culture.
This transatlantic endeavour has been made possible through a year-long fundraising campaign.
The band engaged in various activities, including bonus ball draws, busking sessions, raffles, local events, and more.
The unwavering support from local businesses and the community has been instrumental in covering expenses for instruments, uniforms, and travel logistics.
The band is very excited for this upcoming adventure.
This trip not only offers a platform to showcase their musical talents but also serves as a cultural exchange, allowing members, especially the youth, to experience the global Irish diaspora’s spirit firsthand.
As the departure date approaches, the Letterkenny & District Pipe Band continues their rehearsals, aiming to make their mark on one of the world’s most celebrated St. Patrick’s Day parades.
They would like to thank the local community for all the support received whilst preparing for this momentous trip.
