There was plenty of Donegal joy at the Donegal Boxing Championships in Carndonagh on Sunday.
Boxers game from across the North West to fight in the championships.
It was an All-Donegal final in the Girl 1 55kg as Isabella Iwanek from Convoy ABC defeated Sara Tennyson from Derryveagh.
Twin Towns Boxer Cathaoir Keenan won his Boy 5 60kg final while Gary McNamara from Raphoe won the Boy 6 63kg.
Sean Kelly of Dunfanaghy beat Marvin Laborte to take the win in the senior final while Carndonagh’s Joe Doherty won well in his Boy 72kg final.
There was a double on the cards for St Bridget’s of Clonmany as Tyler McGonigle and Rowen Doherty won their Boy 2 finals in 48kg and 41.5kg respectively.
There were more finals on Tuesday night in Letterkenny.
Paul McCloskey of Illies Golden Gloves proved too strong for Oisin Lee of Ballyhshannon.
Rocco McDaid of Carndonagh had too much for Brian Anderson (Twin Towns) in an all-Donegal Boy 4 63kgs final.
Ryan Glackin of St Bridget’s, Clonmany took a win over Jake Cowan of Dukes in the Boy 2 43kg category.
In the semi-finals, there was joy for Brian Anderson (Twin Towns), Oisin Lee (Ballyshannon), Paul McCloskey (Illies Golden Gloves) and Ryan Glackin (St Bridget’s).
Meanwhile, the Ulster 9 Counties Championships will be held in Cookstown at the weekend.
Hannah Lee Peoples (Raphoe), Michael McMonigle, Ryan Glackin and Darragh McGonigle (St Bridget’s), Shea McEleney and Oisin Friel (Illies Golden Gloves), Caden Keenan (Twin Towns), Colm Callaghan (Carndonagh) will all be in action on Saturday.
Eddie McBride (Dunfanaghy), Rowan Doherty (St Bridget’s), Nathan Lynch (Twin Towns), and Cassie Lynch (Illies Golden Gloves) all have fights on Sunday.
A number of Donegal boxers have been granted walkovers. In Girl 1 – Isabella Iwanek, Convoy (53kg), and Tegan McCarron, Carrigart (75+kg), and Girl 2 – Roisin Hegarty (Twin Towns) unfortunately do not have fights this weekend.
