Local funeral supplier to launch free death notice site

A Letterkenny funeral supplier is to launch a new website to publicise funeral notices free of charge.

The move, from Danny Morning in Listillion, comes in the wake of RIP.ie introduce fees of €100 per notice, to come into effect in January.

Mr Morning’s alternative funeral notices will be called condolence.ie.

He said he hopes his website will help families save money on funeral costs.

“Over the past 30 years we have established a great relationship with a large number of Funeral Directors throughout the country, said Mr Morning, who runs Morning Grave Products.

“We have recently been approached by a number of them to develop a free death notice website in order to help relieve some financial stress on grieving families.

“In light of this we have created www.condolence.ie which will be launching in the first week in January 2025.”

Mr Morning said that notices on his site will be “completely free of charge”.

He said family and friends will also be allowed access and add their condolences free of charge also.

RIP.ie fees were announced recently following its sale to the Irish Times Group for an undisclosed fee earlier this year.

From January 1, 2025 funeral directors will have to pay €100 per death notice, adding to the cost for families. The site will remain free for visitors to access and express condolences.
