A SPOKESMAN for a local parish has paid tribute to the late Raphoe native, millionaire businessman, Hugh Green, for enabling parishioners at home and abroad to view Mass over the internet.

Mr Danny Martin was speaking on the third anniversary of Mr Green’s €10,000 donation which helped them install a state-of-the-art CCTV system and webcam inside St Eunan’s Church as well as paying for three-year ‘live streaming’ licence.

Mr Green, a former Donegal Person of the Year, who arrived in New Zealand penniless in 1951, amassed a fortune through a variety of business interests, including construction, farming and property investment, before he died in July 2012 aged 80.

Mr Martin said that, despite a little apprehension at the start, people log on to their webcam from all around the world on a regular basis, to view live streamings of daily Mass, funerals and weddings.

Any person or company who may wish to consider sponsoring the new service can contact either Mr Martin or Canon Denis McGettigan, PP, on 074 91 45558 or 91 45647 or by email at webmaster@parishofraphoe.com
