LEATHER clad bikers might have a reputation for being tough, but they will roll down their sleeves tomorrow (Saturday) in order to raise much needed cash for a Donegal childrens’ charity.

Kind hearted local members of the Devils Disciples Motor Cycle Club (Ireland) are dedicating this year’s North West Bike Show at Larkins of Newmills, outside Letterkenny, to the Autism Family Support Group.

Formed in 1967 California, USA, the club has bikers all over Ireland, including more than 40 from Donegal and the north west. Members spend a lot of time working on their bikes, building them and improving them and the classic Harley Davidson is the symbol for many.

A number of their ‘choppers’ will be also be on display tomorrow from 2pm to 6pm for the family event, which will include bouncy castles, face painting, a petting zoo, magic show and a strongman competition.

The club’s Donegal-based Irish Vice President, John Power, has an autistic child and felt the show would be the perfect opportunity to give something back to the local support group.

“The show is an annual event anyway, so we decided to have a family event until 6pm, before the rest of the bikers arrive from all over the country. Our bikers just want to do something for kids with autism,” he said.

“We are providing loads of family entertainment absolutely free, however, visitors can make a contribution of as little or as much as they like. The event will all be very child and family friendly.”

After 6 pm, the more serious stuff kicks off with trophies for best bikes as well as a live band, DJ, tattooist as well as camping, stalls and food.

“There will mostly be bikers arriving in the evening and the entry fee is €10, however, everyone is welcome to come along,” Mr Fox added.

The club only hosts three shows per year, including the Donegal event, which are attending by hundreds of bikers from all over Ireland and abroad.

The North West Bike Show will be held at Larkins of Newmills, approximately 1km from the Aura Leisure Centre on the main Letterkenny to Glenties road.
