LAST Sunday evening President Michael D. Higgins invited members of the arts who supported him in his election campaign to a reception at Áras an Úachtaráin.
Amongst the hundreds of artists was also Donegal’s own Little John Nee who has known the newly elected president since he moved to Galway in 1986.
Letterkenny native Little John said seeing such an incredible wealth of talent, including fellow Donegal man Mickey Joe Harte, being welcomed at the Áras was ‘really good for the heart’.
“There was a large contingent from the West and North West, and in total there must have been at least 300, including sculptors, poets, film-makers, singers, playwrights and more.
“It was a very strange feeling to be at the Áras on Sunday evening. Although the building and everything about it is very grand, the evening itself was very unpretentious and we were given a great welcome by the president, who is a very humble man,” said Little John.
