HAVE you a child in 5th or 6th class or 1st 2nd year at secondary school who would be interested in improving their conversational skills in Irish with classes organised by Líonra Leitir Ceanainn?
Many of you will be familiar with Líonra Leitir Ceanainn and the numerous Irish Language events it organises here in Letterkenny, appealing to anyone and everyone who has an interest in being connected to our native language.
In the past year alone there has been such a range of social events suitable for all ages and all levels of Irish from the monthly family events which have included Art with ‘The Arty Fox’ , exercise with Eibhlín Ní Cholla(Rinka), fun and games with Evelyn Cullen among many more. This Saturday, September 20, from 1 to 2pm in Gaelscoil Adhamhnáin there is a Build a Bear session taking place, for which you may register on our website lionralc.ie.
A spokesperson said: “We have had great fun at our Summer Camps with a range of different events ensuring two really enjoyable fun filled weeks for the children who attended . All the activities at the summer Camps including sport, art , music and board games were conducted through the medium of Irish giving the children a flavour of the fun and enjoyment to be had in social activities with their friends while using and improving their Gaeilge
“There were so many other events throughout the year in celebration of our language and culture, organised by Líonra Leitir Ceanainn, information on which can be got through following us on social media and accessing our website.
“Maybe, as a result of this ‘buzz’ surrounding Irish your child has shown increasing interest in learning the language? If so, then why not sign them up for the classes which will begin in the next few weeks? It is a 10- week course of one-hour lessons which will take place on Mondays between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. The aim of the class is that the children will have fun , enjoy the language and improve their conversational skills.
“Having increased confidence in their conversational Irish will stand them in good stead for secondary school and will sow the seeds of love for the language which may open doors and present opportunities for them in the future.”
