A LIFFORD actress has recently popped up on Irish television promoting one of Ireland’s best known breakfast products, Flahavan’s Porridge, in its latest commercial.
Having taken a break in recent years to concentrate on her work behind the camera in writing and production, Cheryl Rock is back on the screen in her seventh advert to-date, the brand new Flahavan’s Energy For Life television commercial.
Cheryl only recently signed with an agency, something she had been putting off for a while, and as soon as she did she was snapped up for her first full feature advert.
“I’ve done about seven adverts before, yet I suppose this is my first full featured one. I signed with the agency CASTANNETTENOW, run by Annette Walsh, two months ago. It’s something I was putting off until I met someone I felt would represent me well,” said Cheryl.
Not only has Cheryl since filmed her first full feature advert for Flahavan’s she has also been cast as a model for the new Kildare Village collection.
The new commercial was produced by the Dublin-based company This Is Butter, directed by Brian Williams, and production director was Dara McClatchie.
Cheryl said she had a lot of fun being back in front of the camera and knew the director’s work before she got to work with him on the Flahavan’s commercial.
“Brian directed an awesome advert for Bridgestone which is known as the ‘Everywhere Ad’. “At the start I had no idea who I was auditioning for and after going to a few auditions and getting to last three I was really feeling pretty jilted, but you just can’t quit. When I got down to the last two I was still thinking ‘cool, but I won’t get excited’.
“When I got the call and found out who I’d be working with I knew that it would be a lot of fun. The crew will say anything to get a good performance out of you when there is no sound, so we had a lot of fun with it. The Flavahan family also joined us on set and we had a great laugh.”

John Flahavan, Managing Director of E. Flahavan and Sons Ltd, said he was delighted Cheryl’s work, whom he said a lot of people thought was, in fact, his actual daughter. He said: “I met Cheryl on the set of the production.
“She is a lovely girl and I think this comes across on the advert. In fact, she looks a bit like my own Ellen as a couple of people have come up to me to say that my daughter looks lovely on the television.
“Incidentally, one of the actors who was on a previous advert of ours from the 1980s was on the Late Late Show on Friday evening. Andrew Scott was around 10 when he featured and the ad showed him running in a Flahavan’s tracksuit alongside his ‘father’ to the tune ‘Start the day the Flahavan’s way’. He is now a successful actor in England, most recently featuring in the TV show Sherlock as Moriarty.”
So there you go, having now done her first full feature commercial for Flahavan’s, you never know what will be in store next for Donegal’s own Cheryl Rock.
