NAOMH Padraig’s lack of a cutting edge in the final third saw Sean McConnell’s side fall to a first defeat in the Ulster League yesterday in Convoy.

A goal late in the first-half by Seamus O’Hare was the game’s big score as it pulled Down side Tullylish over the line at the end.

But Naomh Padraig were left to look back at an afternoon of poor economy in attack. The border outfit, finalists in the Donegal junior championship last year, had a decent first-half, with O’Hare’s goal giving Tullylish only a one-point lead at the break.

The Lifford challenge was de-railed thereafter. On one hand they did well to keep Tullylish to just three points, but on the other they raised just two white flags of their own, while having a further seven efforts at the posts that missed the target.

It was that failure to take their chances that cost Naomh Padraig. There were plenty of bright spots for the beaten Junior finalists of 2011, and if McConnell can mend those attacking deficiencies that were on show yesterday they could have something to go on.
