LIFFORD CELTIC were set to hold a meeting last night (Thursday) to discuss the future of their senior team.
The Greenbrae men were unable to field against Rathmullan Celtic last week and if they cannot fulfil their fixture at home to St Catherine’s this Sunday, they will be banned from the Donegal League for two years.
Lifford won the Premier Division title in 2013 and were very unlucky to miss out on retaining their crown last year, when Rathmullan edged them out on the final day of the season.
However, the border men have struggled this season and currently sit second from bottom in the league after collecting just three wins from their 14 league games.
Brendan White’s side have encountered problems throughout their campaign and they were hammered 8-0 at home by Drumoghill in February.
The club lifted their performance after that drubbing and recorded a vital 3-1 win against fellow-strugglers Cranford a fortnight ago.
However, the club were unable to find eleven players to travel to Rathmullan last week.
There were fears that Lifford may not be able to play this weekend either, as a number of their players are set to attend the Republic of Ireland’s game against Poland.
However, a club source revealed that they are confident that the game against St Catherine’s will go ahead.
